ICYMI: The Teamsters betrayed their own workers — and Republicans fell for it again

The Ohio Conference of Teamsters endorsed Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senate in 2026, a Democrat running in a state President Trump has won three times.

The numbers tell the whole story. The Teamsters sent 92% of political contributions to Democrats in the 2024 cycle. In 2022, it was 97.5%. In 2020, 97%. Going back to 1990, there is not a single election cycle in which the Teamsters gave Republicans more than 16% of their federal contributions. The organization's own internal polling in 2024 showed a clear majority of members preferred a Trump endorsement over Harris. 

The gap between rank-and-file workers and union leadership has never been clearer. This endorsement, at this moment, with Republicans holding both chambers and a governing majority, confirms what the data has shown for decades. The money and endorsements go to Democrats when it counts, regardless of what members want or what Republicans offer.

Gene Hamilton, Senior Advisor to CPAW, writes in the Washington Examiner: "The conversation about workers' interests belongs with those workers directly, not with institutions that have directed 92 to 97 cents of every political dollar to Democrats for thirty-plus years."
